Can ChatGPT Bamboozle Google?

AI is changing everything, even multitrillion-dollar industries. Because ChatGPT is a cutting-edge AI language model that can produce text that resembles human speech, it poses a danger to Google. It is a solid rival to Google’s language-based services like Google Assistant and Translates since it can comprehend and react to inputs in natural language. Additionally, ChatGPT may be used to develop chatbots and other language-based programs, which may compete with Google’s chatbot products for market share. ChatGPT and other such models may become much more potent as AI technology develops, further undermining Google’s hegemony in the market for language-based technologies.

All of the alarms went off last month at Google’s headquarters.

This is the subject of an entire piece in the New York Times. They claimed that “Code Red” was activated in the corporate hierarchy.

Google is quite frightened.

The cause?

Recent advances in artificial intelligence might seriously jeopardize Google’s fundamental business, search.

So, the question is unavoidable.

Could one of the so-called “trillion-dollar” corporations soon go out of business, bringing with it the end of sectors like SEO, SERPs, and digital marketing?

Google, the maiden Internet monopoly, is quite vulnerable.

The current market capitalization of Google is a staggering 1.13 trillion dollars.

Search engines, online advertising, cloud computing, software, and hardware are just a few of the internet-related services and goods that Google, a global technology firm, specializes in offering. Its search engine, which enables users to look for information online, is its most well-known and often-used feature. Other services provided by Google include email, maps, and video-sharing websites. While pursuing their doctorates at Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergey Brin started the firm in 1998.

That is made up of 1 and 12 zeros. What’s further stranger is that Google had a market value of about $2 trillion in November 2021.

Even if it represents a significant decline, it can still rank as the fourth-largest firm in the world by market value.

Given its size, its income must likewise be enormous.

Revenue of 256 billion dollars in 2021. Very good.

But how much does it cost?

Compared to Portugal’s anticipated 2022 GDP as a whole, greater.

In other words, Google’s profits in 2021 exceeded what Portugal as a nation managed to achieve in a single year.

After seeing such figures, one cannot seem startled by Google’s outrageous value.

Or ought we not?

In actuality, there is a catch to Google’s business strategy.

Google’s strength isn’t in diversifying its business.

There is no denying that Google has some impressive stats.

Let’s take a closer glance at the following monographic for a more vivid illustration:

Alphabet’s quarterly earnings are broken down into the revenue sources that Google receives. Visual Capitalist, Inc.

According to Google’s quarterly earnings for the six months ending in June 2022, the company earned 69.7 billion dollars.

Their total profit of 16 billion dollars, or a profit margin of 23%, is almost as astounding.

That’s significant given that Amazon, one of the other leading players, experienced a loss during that quarter.

All of this looks terrific, right?

But if you pay close attention, something seems strange.

Possibly even improbable.

Out of the 70 billion in income, 41 billion, or about 60%, comes from a single source: search advertising. A sector in which Google has a market share of around 92%.

And the issue is that this is the business that AI can disrupt.

Yet how?

AI models for transformers. However, what the heck is that?

They aren’t murderous robots like the ones in the movies; just a suggestion.

ChatGPT and upcoming events

Most likely, you’ve read or heard a lot about ChatGPT lately.

Like, a lot, painfully.

But given how unique the technology is, it makes sense.

Within 30 seconds, Know all about ChatGPT.

For those who don’t know, OpenAI, a nonprofit organization created by Sam Altman and Elon Musk, among others, has released the most recent version of ChatGPT, their chatbot, which is powered by GPT-3.5, the biggest transformer language model ever constructed, which contains over 175 billion parameters.

A sizable language model called ChatGPT has been taught to produce text that resembles human speech. It is built on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) design, which processes and produces text using a transformer neural network. ChatGPT may be used for various activities, including language translation, answering questions, and summarization. It is meant to be able to comprehend and react to natural language inputs.

In case you’re unsure, chatbots are interactive robots.

You’ve probably talked to many people lately, mainly if you’ve dealt with call centers, insurance providers, or any customer service you can find in today’s market.

Sincerely speaking, such chatbots could be more frustrating and severely constrained.

But not this one.

It’s possible to argue that it’s the same creature but an entirely new beast, but to me, it’s also an utterly different creature.

Among other things, ChatGPT can write whatever you want in various computer languages, answer virtually any query with really elegant replies, create original bedtime tales, debug your code, and more.

Some have suggested it could be the first intelligent, sentient AI model since it is outstanding.

Simple response: NO.

That statement needs to be corrected since it implies consciousness, which is incorrect.

A beast of probabilities

GPT is a probabilistic machine, much like any other neural network. It can anticipate the next word that will complete a phrase with an astounding degree of accuracy, resulting in adequately elaborated sentences that seem pretty human.

But although anticipating eloquent reactions with a high degree of accuracy is one thing, fully comprehending what people are reacting to is quite another.

Modern AI is not conscious; do not be misled by sensationalist media.

But even if an armed rebellion of human-killing robots seems unlikely, ChatGPT is ready to upend anything.

The Internet search market is Google’s cash cow.

Google Search and SEO on their way out?

Unlike Google Search, ChatGPT provides succinct and straight answers without requiring you to wade endlessly through page links.

Google is a formidable force in the technology industry due to its strength in search and advertising. The company’s search algorithm is considered the most sophisticated industry, providing highly relevant and accurate results for users. Additionally, Google’s advertising platform, Google Ads, is one of the most potent and effective ways for businesses to reach their target audiences. The company’s ability to collect and analyze vast amounts of data also allows them to offer personalized experiences to users and target advertising to specific demographics. Overall, Google’s strength lies in its ability to connect users with the information they need and connect businesses with their target audiences.

Because of this, they could start using these systems to do searches rather than Google.

In that case, Google would be in danger since fewer businesses would choose to advertise themselves via Google.

Google is one of many, however.

Numerous marketing firms depend on their SEO know-how and ability to enable their customers to “be noticed” on Google. It might be disastrous for them if consumer journeys suddenly switch to utilizing AI rather than Google.

Due to this, and because GPT-4, an updated version of the underlying AI model, will be published early in 2019…

How ready are we to “kill” Google?

Differentiating between wrong and right

A decent search engine is difficult to build.

These algorithms must be continually improved to provide the searcher with applicable but appropriate information to prevent exposing false news, racism, homophobia, or plagiarism.

With AI, this task is considerably more difficult.

AI nowadays must determine three things:

  • Data Bias
  • Opacity
  • Preventing stumbling

The ultimate BlackBox, terrible AI

GPT-3.5 has been adjusted for 175 billion parameters, needing 800 GB of storage, as previously said.

This implies that it takes much work to describe how these models function and how they arrive at conclusions or predictions.

Thus, there isn’t a method to justify a racist statement made by ChatGPT.

Biased Model and Biassed Data

These models also rely heavily on having impartial data sources and diverse teams of data engineers. These models are complicated in today’s environment since they are not aware but mathematical models that have learned to respond by sheer force and enormous volumes of data.

A problem is why I’ll give you this information.

Data from this September from Zippia shows that 69% of all programmers are white, and 70% of computer programmers are men.

Even if most of them aren’t racist, this highly skewed workforce is undoubtedly quite prejudiced in terms of culture. It is terrible for AI models that aim to be universal and relevant to society.

Google Search won’t be replaced anytime soon.

Despite all of this, I don’t believe that Google’s position as the top search engine is now in jeopardy.

Though today’s AI models are too early and unsafe for widespread usage, in my view, ChatGPT has given us a glimpse of what search engines will indeed look like in the future.

Google is fortunate to have its big language model, LaMDa, and has undoubtedly learned about the capabilities of LLMs from OpenAI.

Nevertheless, everything here demonstrates how disruptive AI will be. But not only for people like you and me; it also applies to essential businesses worldwide.

Final thoughts

The Internet is filled with much too much garbage.

Finding high-quality information is tricky, particularly in cryptography and artificial intelligence. It takes much time and often yields nothing.

However, if you want to succeed, you must continue being innovative. Truth does indeed sting.
